Travel to Greece in the Second Trimester of Pregnancy :

To make the most of my Baby-moon to Greece, I chose second trimester to travel in pregnancy. You will be done with the constant nausea of the first trimester and are neither too far along in your pregnancy like the third trimester. This makes second trimester the safest and least complicated time to travel.

Take a deep breath, Santorini is so stunning, she will take your breath away

Pack Smart :

Depending on the season you go, Santorini can be extremely cold or extremely hot. We went in May, which is Spring in Greece. The Aegean breeze was surprisingly cold that year. In summer the beaches, especially volcanic beaches get super-heated due to the high iron content in the sand. Carry sunscreen, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, hat and stay hydrated! Speaking of iron, carry your pre-natal vitamins and iron too!

Do your research well when traveling to Santorini in Pregnancy :

Before your trip to Santorini, inform your doctor and try to get as many useful tips you can from your OB/GYN. Buy medical travel insurance before you embark on your baby-moon to Santorini. Carry your medical records and get phone numbers and locations of hospitals near your hotel.

You can even inform your hotel in advance and sometimes they will go the extra length to make your Baby-moon super special. If you travel to Athens or other parts of Greece, then try to get entry passes for museums and other attractions in advance so that you don’t have to stand in long queues under the bold Greek sun!

Acropolis is very slippery so either avoid it completely or take cable cars wherever possible. Santorini’s terrain is uneven so always watch your step !

Make your travel enjoyable :

Long flights can be demanding on your body. Depending on where you are flying from, break the journey into smaller stretches. We flew from India to Athens and then onwards to Santorini breaking our journey in Qatar as the mid point between India and Europe. If you can overcome the challenge of sea sickness then cruising is a great way to reduce travel exhaustion.

What to Eat in your Baby-moon to Santorini ?

Greek food is scintillating with a bounty of fresh produce from land and sea. N kicked in joy each time I relished grilled fish from the Mediterranean. ‘The wine is delicious’, you’ll hear your husband say. While you will stay away from wines and Ouzo, you can enjoy traditional Greek food such as stuffed pumpkin blossoms, Spanakopitas and unlimited Tzatziki on your gyros.

Keftedes – Delicious tomato fritters , a speciality of Santorini

It is recommended to eat hard cheeses and not soft ones in pregnancy. This is to avoid the risk of Listeria infection in pregnant women, which could be very harmful to your developing baby. So make sure soft cheeses such as  Feta and Haloumi are cooked until steaming hot before you eat them!

Hope these tips to travel safely in pregnancy help you in planning a baby-moon to Greece.
