Mid October is the best time to catch the red leaves still on the trees, we went in late Oct and most leaves were on the ground. Nevertheless, it still looked spectacular – a red carpet of sorts.
With a regal looking gate (that’s always shut) and a long driveway, the property behind those gates looks formidable and unapproachable. That is not true. It is in fact an inviting Bed and Breakfast.
Rockwood Farm is one of top places to see fall colors in Seattle – its a cozy collection of stone and wood cabins, done up in true Northwest style. The interiors are not as stunning as the grounds, but the property makes for a beautiful holiday spot. Huge expansive lawns and visiting deers for company add to the charm.

If you really want to enjoy this waterfall in Fall, then the best way is to hike all the way to the bottom. It’s an easy hike that be done with kids – about 0.7 mile. The path takes you among winding firs and native northwest trees dotted with various berries. You dont see any fall colors yet, everything till the way down is lush green in Seattle’s signature style.

When is the best time to see the fall colors in Seattle/Washington State
Mid Oct- Oct end is the best time to catch the fall colors in Seattle/Washington
Rockwood farm is not a tourist attraction . It is a private residence in a quiet neighborhood. Parking in the road is illegal and dangerous. There are many better places to go for taking pictures of fall colors.
I definitely recommend my readers to park legally and respect the peaceful neighborhood. Rockwood farm is an inviting B&B with stunning fall colors. If you know better places for Fall photography we’d love to hear from you 🙂
Hello Deepti,
My name is Vishrut. I am from Philadelphia,PA area. I am planning to visit Washington state for fall photography. I am interested to photograph the famous Rockwood farm driveway. Is it a private property? Do I need permission to take pics of the farm? Where is this place located exactly? Is there any place for lodging near by? I highly appreciate your feedback. Thank you, Vishrut
Hi Vishrut,
When we visited, Rockwood farm was a tucked away AirBnB, so technically thats the closest accommodation. Its also not too far from Seattle, a mere 45 min drive. We saw many photography enthusiasts clicking the driveway from outside it’s huge gate. You could call them up to enquire about a formal photoshoot if thats your requirement. Its located in the NorthBend area, GPS will easily help you navigate to the place, Hope this helps and you have a great time in WA !
Deepti,
Thanks for reply. I appreciate your feedback. Looking forward for fall colors.
